It is hard to imagine a time when Cortland was just an infant, especially watching Bauer slowly develop his personality as an almost 3 month old. First laughs, smiles, and facial expressions for Bauer are a reminder that so much can change in 2 years! At 2.5, Cortland is giving us tender moments we will remember forever, almost daily. For his first Halloween, he is captivated by ghosts (so scary), and skeletons. We’ve maybe let him watch a few spooky shows and movies that aren’t quite meant for 2 year old’s, but he has been loving the Halloween festivities, and it is fun to feel like this holiday “matters” for us as a family again now that we can enjoy it through Cortland. All the grandparent’s will be in town this weekend for Cortland’s first real Trick or Treat, and I’m sure he will have us laughing the whole time. A few nights ago, the Nanit caught Cortland singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” to himself in his crib. That video and memory will be one I know I’ll remember his whole life, and reminds me of the innocence I have been entrusted to protect and cherish!
After a tennis-filled weekend at the Timuquana Member Guest, I was definitely feeling the persuasion of country club comforts. Of course one of the nicest clubs in a large city, hosting a 4 day event with special guests John Isner (tall) and Stevie Johnson was amazing. But there is definitely something to be said about being a part of a club that essentially doubles as community, where people know each other well, and proximity allows easy golf cart trips to the pool/ tennis courts/ or dining room. I have certainly been spoiled by my exposure to Country Club amenities during my time here in Jax, and as I was thinking of how nice it would be to stay and continue enjoying them, reality reminded me of the work ahead of me. Most, if not all, of the guys and families I interacted with are Jacksonville locals who have come back to work for family businesses. I am still determined to pave my own path, and hopefully create multi-generational wealth for my kid’s and their future families. I desire to identify less with my peers at the event, and more with their parents, whose hard work 20+ years ago created an opportunity for their kids to come back home, and enjoy the benefits of their parents efforts when they were young. All this to say, country clubs are nice and something I aspire to have access to for our family in the future, but my work is only just beginning, and comforts are something I hope to earn, not just expect. In the meantime, my tennis game is pretty good after taking 2 years off. I’m going to keep playing weekly if possible and see how things go in the single tournament next month. I am definitely much more likely to win at tennis than I am at golf…
